Our three Resort members Dawn Weller, Rachel Ella Taylor and Julia Riddiough won a recent pitch in March 2015 to work on a Louvre-Lens project in northern France; ‘Enhancing the Visit’ following the recent branding exercise by Li Eldekoort and her studio to uplift the town of Lens and highlight the newly built Louvre Museum extension from it’s sister location in Paris.
The three artists were invited to visit Lens and spend a week working with the local team Mélanie Martini, Antoine Policante, Vero Skorupinski and Emilie Nemeth using the new brand values to reinvent a vintage 1972 Tarbet caravan; along with local architect Jean Francois Kuntz working on solar energy solutions and a transparent futuristic awning reflecting the proposed design scheme. The Resort team up-cycled the caravan to make it into a new destination experience for visitors staying in Lens – referencing the culture, heritage and history that make up this unusual place. The design of the caravan was a site-specific response using materials and applications inspired by Lens, the people and the space.
